Rare first printing in English (in translation by A.G. Munro) of this delightful fantasy. Publisher's purple cloth, elaborately blocked in gilt and black, all edges gilt.
Over 100 illustrations, both full-page and in-text. Publisher's catalogue at rear dated October1874 (i.e. first issue). Spine sun-faded with wear to head and tail; leading internal hinge neatly reinforced; finger-marking to margins passim.
Not a great copy, but very hard to find in any condition. Yan' Dargent (illustrator).
