Three things we do besides selling books.

Scan on demand

Some books here cost thousands, and not everyone who needs one needs to own it. A scholar needs the text, a bibliographer the typography, a collector the plates. So any book in the catalogue published before the copyright era can be captured page by page in high definition on dedicated book scanning equipment and delivered to you as a single PDF. The book stays on the shelf; you get its contents.

Prices are fixed and published, by extent and format: $400 up to about 200 pages, $600 from 200 to 500, $800 beyond that or for oversize and fragile volumes. A specimen PDF is available so you can see the quality before you order.

Attribution research

Anonymous publication was the norm in Victorian periodicals, and it did not stop there: an unsigned essay, a manuscript in an unknown hand, a family paper with no name on it. We test the text stylometrically against a reference corpus of a thousand named authors, and we follow the paper trail in the archives, publishers' ledgers and the press.

What you receive is a report that says what the evidence supports, what it excludes, and what remains open. We publish negative results as readily as positive ones: an attribution nobody has tested is only a rumour.

Valuation and cataloguing

Descriptions, edition points and market valuation for a single book or an entire library, written by a working bibliographer who has catalogued tens of thousands of them. Useful for insurance, for probate, or simply for knowing what is on your own shelves.
