The Africander: A Plain Tale of Colonial Life

E. Clairmonte
T. Fisher Unwin, London · 1896

First Edition. Very rare sole edition of this detailed record of early settler life in Cape Colony. The author moved about quite a lot, trying his hand at different trades and meeting a variety of Boers, English settlers and Zulus.

There are interesting descriptions of numerous locations including Pietermaritzburg, Cape Town, Kimberley and Johannesburg and of the scenery in Zululand. Illustrated with 17 full-page photographic plates; 272pp. In original reddish-brown cloth with illustrations in black to front cover and dpine and lettering in gilt and black.

Very slight surface rubbing to cloth and light foxing throughout. A perfectly sound and quite attractive copy of an extremely scarce book.

Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
