Hendricks the Hunter - A Tale of Zululand
W.H.G Kingston
Hodder & Stoughton, London · 1879
First Edition. Scarce true first edition of this juvenile work by Kingston with South African setting. In original pictorial red cloth, all edges gilt, numerous plates by an unattributed illustrator.
The first edition of this work (of which this is a copy) almost certainly comprised 2,000 copiesand virtually none have survived due to the fact that the book was bound using iron staples, which have rusted, causing the book to fall apart. This copy is intact and sound, with just slight spine lean and minor soiling to cloth. No other copies online at time of listing.
All editions of Kingston's books published in his lifetime (d.1880) are now quite uncommon due to small printings and natural attrition. If you have any other Kingston wants please contact me as I have many books by this author, about whom I am preparing a major bibliographical study.
Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
