The House of Sin

Allen Upward
Faber and Gwyer, London · 1926

First Edition. Very rare UK first edition (the true first) of Upward's last book. He commited suicide in 1926, apparently on hearing that G.B.

Shaw had won the Nobel Prize - a distinction which he seems to have believed he himself deserved. Apart from his overweening self-belief, at least Ezra Pound shared the view that Upward was a genius. This book is a Tarleton mystery novel, the sequel to his Domino Club of 1925.

Original brown linen with gilt spine lettering, top edges stained brown. Minor soiling to cloth and margins but a clean, sound copy of a desperately scarce book.

Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
