First Edition. Very scarce and important work, examining the mystery of the famous man in the mask and establishing his identity for the first time. The book was a best-seller in France in 1870 and Vizetelly was on the spot to translate it and make it available to English readers. 16pp prelims and 367pp text.
Publisher's blue cloth with gilt lettering and decoration to spine and blind-stamping to front and rear. Cloth and page edges are grubby but the book is quite sound and very clean internally. Most uncommon.
