Romaban Tortent Valami (Something Happened in Rome)
Sandor Marai
Pannonia, Toronto · 1971
First Edition. Very rare exile publication by the author of Embers. None of Marai's books were published in Hungary between 1948 and his death (and the end of Communism) in 1989.This is a 208pp historical novel set in ancient Rome, published in a sole edition in Canada but while Marai was still living in Italy.
It has not yet appeared in print in Hungary. Pale grey cloth lettered in gilt. Original ownership inscription on ffep but a VG clean sound copy.
The first copy of this book I have been able to offer in 20 years of dealing in Hungarian literature.
Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
