First Edition. Very rare exile publication by the author of Embers. None of Marai's books were published in Hungary between 1948 and his death (and the end of Communism) in 1989.This is a 175pp historical novel set during the Renaissance in Italy, published in a sole edition by the author, no place of publication given.
It has not yet appeared in print in Hungary. Large softback with pale grey covers lettered in red and black. Minor soiling to page edges but but a VG sound copy.
The first copy of this book I have been able to offer in 20 years of dealing in Hungarian literature.
