E.F. Benson
Hutchinson, London
First Edition. First edition of this ultra-scarce Benson novel. Of Fred's 70 odd (some very odd.) novels, this one is, in my considerable experience, the hardest of all to find in any edition.
In over 20 years of dealing in Bensoniana I have yet to find a first edition of this book in Hutchinson's primary binding offered for sale - though I have seen one - the BL copy! What I'm offering here is a first edition in the secondary W.H. Smith's library binding, light brown textured cloth with lettering, decorative ruling and lamp device in black. Undated but published in 1926. 320pp bound without publisher's catalogue.
There is no evidence that this book was ever issued as a library book and the only previous ownership mark is a neat signature to the ffep. Very good or better - it doesn't look as if the book was read more than once.
Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
