Girls of the Hamlet Club
Elsie Jeanette Oxenham
Chambers, London · 1914
First Edition. Ultra-scarce first edition of the first book in the Abbey School series. Original olive green cloth with title lettering in gilt and three-colour illustrations by Earnshaw to front cover and spine. 324pp text + 4 full-colour plates by Earnshaw, all clean and bright.
Book isdated 1914 on the title page. Slate grey coated endpapers with small Brighton bookseller's ticket to front pastedown. No ownership inscriptions.
This copy is in an excellent state of preservation with just minimal shelf wear to extremities and a number of tiny yellow speckles to rear cover which I take to be an original flaw in the cloth. Very slight page edge foxing, not extending into the pages and a few light finger marks to margins. The book is perfectly sound, bright and attractive.
The key title to completing an Elsie Oxenham collection and scarce in any condition. Distinctly rare in such a nice state. Harold C.
Earnshaw (illustrator).
Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
