An Old Man's Love
Anthony Trollope
Blackwood, London · 1884
First Edition. Trollope's last completed novel, posthumously published. First edition, in 2 volumes, in original cloth.
Sadleir #69. This is a set in the first issue smooth, dark red cloth with gilt vignettes to front covers and gilt lettering on blind-stamped panels to spines. Dark chocolate end-papers.
Spines a bit dull and gilt faded but still legible. Very neat internal repairs to snags at heads of spines, using matching cloth. Light foxing to prelims but no previous ownership inscriptions and internally perfectly clean.
Writing in 1928 Sadleir described this novel as 'surprisingly rare' and was only able to find references to three sets for sale in the preceding 10 years, none of which was anywhere near as good as the present set. Very good set of what is undoubtedly a rare double-decker.
Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
