A Plot in Private Life and Other Tales [The Queen of Hearts]

Wilkie Collins
Tauchnitz, Leipzig · 1859

First Edition. Rare Wilkie Collins short story collection. This Tauchnitz collection of five tales taken from The Queen of Hearts (1st ed. also 1859) is the only edition to appear under this title and with this precise contents.

As well as the title story it includes Mad Monckton, The Black Cottage, The Family Secret and The Biter Bit. Todd & Bowden's #493 b issue (identical with the a issue other than the presence of '&c.' rather than 'etc.' on title page, and only 2 copies of the a issue are known to exist). Contemporary full cloth binding with gilt spine lettering and rules, all edges speckled in pale blue. 294pp text.

Light foxing passim, unobtrusive damp-marking at top of rear cover and slight bumping to lower corners. Overall a clean and perfectly sound copy with no previous ownership marks. Very scarce indeed.

Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
