A Nyomkereso

Imre Kertesz
Szepirodalmi, Budapest · 1977

First Edition. Rare first edition of the second published book by the recent Hungarian Nobel laureate. Kertesz's first book, Sorstalansag [Fateless], appeared in 1975 and has recently been filmed.

He received little public acclaim however, even in Hungary, until winning the Nobel Prize in 2002. Thus his early works (indeed anything published before 2002) are very scarce and this volume particularly so as it has not yet been reissued in the collected works edition and the first remains the only published edition to date. This 224pp book comprises 2 long novellas, the title story & 'Detektivtortenet'.

Hardbound in imitation cloth with illustrative vignette to front cover and attractive pen & ink Chagall-like illustration to dw with photo portrait of the author to front flap. Minimal edge wear to dw else a fine copy throughout. Engel Tevan Istvan (illustrator).

Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
