Wrecked but not Ruined

Desperately scarce true first edition of this volume (No. 16) in Ballantyne's Miscellany. The series was issued at irregular intervals over a 20-year period and in a variety of bindings and cloth colours. At certain points, the series was issued in boxed sets as gift items for children.
The present title, dated 1875 on the title page, was only available in this, the original edition, as one volume in a boxed set of 16. This partially explains the fact that there are no copies in the UK deposit libraries and that this was the one title missing from Eric Quayles's descriptive bibliography of Ballantyne. No copies have been offered for sale on ABE books in the past 20 years and this is a rare opportunity to complete a collection.
In the original blue cloth with gilt vignette, lettering and decoration to the front cover and spine. Original chocolate-coated endpapers. 3 plates plus illustrated half-title page. Slight sun fading to spine and minor rubbing to extremities, but a well-preserved copy of a small and fragile item.
