First Edition. First edition of this rare, early Gissing novel. Volume 1 only of 3.
In contemporary 3/4 leather binding with marbled paper to boards, gilt spine lettering and decoration, pink sprinkled edges. Not an ex-library copy and no previous ownership marks. Minor rubbing to extremities but a perfectly sound and internally spotless copy of one of Gissing's scarcest novels.
Just lacking the other 2 volumes.
