The Image in the Sand

E.F. Benson
Heinemann, London · 1905

First Edition. First edition of this rare and interesting Benson novel, his first full-length treatment of things supernatural and, in a sense, his 'Dracula'. It involves an unscrupulous archaeologist and delver into matters occult who exerts evil power (with a view to having his wicked way) over an English rose who becomes possessed by the unquiet spirit of an ancient Egyptian.

This is a copy of the Heinemann first edition in the original mustard cloth binding lettered in black with vignette illustration to front cover. A well-read and handled copy which has been carefully cleaned and restored. New front endpapers and neat repairs to snags and splits at spine.

The cloth is still rather grubby and there are sporadic marks from foxing or fingers. Nonetheless, a sound and intact copy of an extremely uncommon title offered at a competetive price.

Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
