Smith and the Pharaohs

H. Rider Haggard
Arrowsmith, Bristol · 1920

First Edition. The most difficult of Haggard's later titles to find, issued in just 3000 copies, as opposed to say Cleopatra (25,000) or 10-15,000 for others of this period. The book itself is not robust and it is likely that only a few hundred have survived in any shape at all.

This copy is in the original reddish-brown buckram, lettered in black. Neatly repaired snag at the foot of the spine but quite clean and no ownership inscriptions: Covers are bright and unfaded and the cheap, brittle text paper, although a little browned as always with this title, is entirely free of foxing, grubbiness or dog-ears. In short, a pretty decent copy of a very difficult book, destined to fill a gap in a major Haggard collection.

Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
