Le Cuisinier Royal
Viart
Gustave Barba, Paris · 1837
First Edition Thus. Lovely copy of this famous treatise on the finest culinary arts, claiming to be the fullest guide to haute cuisine ever published to date. This is a copy of the 15th edition, newly augmented with 1200 articles by MM.
Fouret & Delan. New 2pp preface by the publisher, 618pp of recipes and 9 illustrations (with menus) showing how to cater for gatherings of 12 to 60 guests. 2pp publishers ads to rear. Bound in contemporary half-cloth with marbled paper covered boards.
The spine cloth has a floral pattern blind-stamped into it and the titles are lettered in gilt with elaborate decorative gilt tooling. Small private library stamp to half-title of a Hungarian nobleman. An astonishingly well-preserved copy, with only minor traces of wear to the binding and very light page-edge foxing.
Perfectly sound and very clean throughout internally. Scarce in any condition but particularly so thus.
Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
