Extremely scarce first Brussels edition of these 2 novellas by Balzac, issued a few months after the Paris first edition. 18o voIume in original grey paper wraps which are worn and frayed but substantially intact. 278pp including 38pp preface by Balzac dated Sept. 15th 1838 and 5pp dedication dated May 1838. Foxing to wraps and passim to text, else a decent copy in original state.
