First Edition. Ultra-scarce novel by Malraux; sole edition under this title. This was intended to have been the first part of a longer work but the remainder was seized by the Nazis and destroyed, along with a number of the copies of this very limited printing.
In total there were 29 large papercopies and 1436 numbered copies of the trade edition. The present copy is #1075. Printed in black and brown.
Thin card covers with folding flaps; edges uncut. Minor loss to card at head and tail of spine, not affecting any lettering, and a sunned strip at the top of the back cover. Other than these minor flaws a perfectly clean and sound copy of a fragile and rare book. [EO.
