First Edition. Very rare early novel by one of the most controversial Hungarian writers of the 20th century. A nobleman by birth, Wass was a staunch defender of the Hungarian cause in Transylvania.
He was sentenced to death in absentia in 1947 for alleged involvement in a massacre, found his wayto the USA and there campaigned for the rights of the Hungarian minority in Romania., alongside his academic career and prolific writing and publication. He commited suicide in 1998 at the age of 90. His works were banned under Communism in Hungary but his rehabilitation has been swift and dramatic.
All his books are now available in paperback and some have become bestsellers 50 or 60 years after they were written. Original editions such as the present copy are now desperately scarce and highly sought after. Original full cloth binding - tan cloth lettered and decorated in red and blue.
A fragile book in a remarkably good state of preservation. Perfectly clean and quite sound.
