A. Oberlander
Munchen: Braun & Schneider, 1912, Munchen · 1912

Second Edition. Good Plus. Sumptuous book of hand-coloured plates by Oberlander accompanying little stories in verse.

In original landscape quarto binding (approx 37 x 24 cms) with red cloth spine and hand-coloured plate pasted on to front paper-covered board, cloth corners. Second Edition (2. Auflage) stated on title-page, undated but issued in 1912 (first, in same format, was 1909). 42 pages of illustrations and verses, printed on recto only, over 100 quite charming hand-coloured illustrations in total.

This heavy and awkwardly shaped book was, amazingly, not sewn but staple-bound, hence very few copies have survived intact. This copy is perfectly sound with some rubbing to the paper edges of the boards and occasional slight grubby marks to margins. 5 short tears to margins, not affecting illustrations, have been neatly closed with archival tape. All in all, a very presentable copy of a scarce and desirable work.

Oberlander, A. (illustrator).

Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
