First Edition. True first edition of possibly the rarest of Orczy's many novels. A marginal Scarlet Pimpernel novel as the story, set during the French Revolution. is introduced and allegedly told by Sir Percy Blakeney.
Publisher's unglazed red cloth lettered in black. First published 1932 stated on title verso as required and original ownership inscription from February 1932 on front free endpaper. One small ink spot to front cover; page edges lightly foxed and spine slightly sunned but lettering still clear and sharp.
Overall a very good tight and clean copy of a book that is hardly ever encountered. Publisher's printing code at rear reveals that 10,000 copies were printed but where they have all disappeared to is a mystery. No other copies for sale worldwide at time of listing.
