First Edition. Rare first edition of this classic, 2 volumes bound in one as issued. In the original highly ornate cloth featuring a garden scene in black and gilt.
Ochre cloth, green floral endpapers, edges trimmed. 235 + 263pp. This is the scarce US edition, bound up using UK sheets. NEW YORK appears at the foot of the spine below the publishers' names.
Neat repair to minor fraying at head and tail of spine using matching cloth. Otherwise a VG sound and bright copy, internally spotless.
