First Edition. Very scarce first edition of this 381pp collection of essays. In publisher's half-cloth binding with gilt spine lettering and author's initials in red to front cover; top edges stained pink, maroon end-papers.
Spine foxed and light page edge spotting; rear inner hinge strained and neatly reinforced. One of Marai's most uncoomon books, in any edition or condition.
