First Edition Thus. Nice, bright copy of this celebrated but scarce 19th-century work of art criticism. This is a copy of the second edition [1st was 1876, from a different publisher].
A presentatiopn copy from the author to the artist and illustrator Sir John Gilbert with 2pp manuscript letter fromthe author tipped in, dated 1878, making the presentation. Green bevelled boards lettered and ruled in gilt. Minimal shelf wear but clean and smart.
