Thalatta! Or, the Great Commoner
Sir John (anon.) Skelton
Parker, Son and Bourn, London · 1862
First Edition. Very scarce first novel, anonymously published [Wolff #6352). This is a political romance, loosely based on the early career of Disraeli, of whom Skelton was a staunch supporter.
Publisher's terracotta cloth lettered in gilt. New, sepia coated endpapers; library label removed from front cover leaving lighter patch. Unlike Wolff's copy there is no catalogue at rear.
Spine a bit sunned and rubbed but a Good, sound copy of a very difficult book, particularly in original cloth.
Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
