Sport Es Szerelem [The Love Game]
Suzanne Lenglen
Legrady Testverek, Budapest · 1928
First Edition. This is the extremely scarce Hungarian first edition of Suzanne Lenglen's classic tennis novel The Love Game. It was issued in a pulp fiction series of staple-bound paperbacks and printed on very brittle paper.
Hardly any copies are known to survive. The book has card covers featuring an illustration of a wistful-looking player with bobbed wavy hair holding a racquet, but doubtless thinking of love. The illustration is in black, gray and red on the yellow card background.
A worn and rubbed copy of an incredibly feeble piece of book production. A rare survival, and only the third copy I have seen in trading in Hungarian books for over 15 years.
Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
