First Edition. First edition of this collection of 4 stories, the only one of Ouida's books to be originally issued in the uniform format. Red pebble-grained cloth with blind-stamping to covers and gilt lettering and decoration to spine.
Uncut edges, black endpapers. Publisher's catalogue at rear forJune 1890 (first issue). Some grubbiness passim and a diagonal crack to rear cover which has slightly weakened it.
A used but acceptable copy of an uncommon book.
