Pokolko [The Calmative]
Samuel et al. Beckett
Europa, Budapest · 1971
First Edition. First edition in Hungarian of this major anthology of modern English short stories. 23 writers represented including Plath [who was American], Naipaul [Trinidadian] and the Irish Beckett, here represented by the Calmative, which he actually wrote in French. Despite these anomolies, an interesting collection, all the pieces appearing for the first time in Hungarian.
Translations by various hands. Colourful illustrated card covers as issued. Very slight shelf wear but very good or better, particularly considering the poor production quality.
Scarce, even in Hungary.
Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
