First Edition. First UK edition of this comedy classic that first appeared in the US in 1876. Unprotected by international copyright this book was pirated by at least 5 UK publishers in 1877 (Warne, Ward & Lock, Routledge, Sampson Low and Mullan).
This edition is particularly attractive, in the original green cloth with gilt and black vignette and lettering. Uncut edges and the book is largely unopened. Tiny insect holes to rear spine joint, not affecting the book internally.
Clean bright and internally near fine copy.
