First Edition. Rare Louis Becke novel in a very uncommon state of the first edition. Unwin issued some of his books in Continental Editions under the series title The Unwin Library.
These books were issued as paperbacks with a cover price in German Marks and French Francs. Apart from the preliminarypages (which bear the warning that these books were not to be introduced to the United Kingdom or anywhere in the Empire) the text is identical with the domestic first edition and the copies were run off as part of the same first printing. No figures are available for these issues, but there were probably between 250-500 such copies out of a total printing of perhaps 2000.
So. this is a continental issue in a contemporary full cloth binding, blue cloth with gilt lettered red spine label and all edges marbled. In lovely condition with no inscriptions or signs of wear.
