First Edition · one copy only
Hatalom Es Dicsoseg [The Power and the Glory]
Graham Greene
Athenaeum, Budapest · 1941
First Edition. First edition in Hungarian of Greene's great novel. Remarkably, this translation by Soter Istvan was published in Budapest in 1941, just a few months after the UK first.
It may well be the first foreign language edition to have appeared. At any rate, it was the first Greenetitle to be published in Hungarian, the next coming out only in 1953. Chocolate coloured vertically ribbed cloth with gilt spine lettering and publisher's colophon to front cover.
A lovely, clean bright copy with front flap of dw loosely inserted. Excellent copy of a very scarce book. A must for any serious Greene completist.
Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
