Egy Ember Elete

Lajos Kassak
Dante, Budapest · 1932

First Edition. Kassak's massive autobiographical novel was first published in 8 volumes between 1928 and 1939. Tesla #1782.

This is a 3-volume set of the second part, issued in 1932. They are volumes 4-6 of the complete work and bear the sub-titles: Vergodes; Kifejlodes and Haboru. The publisherwas Dante and all volumes are dated 1932.

Rather bizarrely, however, the volumes are all bound in a very attractive cloth with decoration and lettering in gilt, bearing the name of the publisher Grill at the foot of the spine. Even more oddly the volumes all have decorative end-papers from the Dante Konyvkiado. My best explanation for this situation is that Grill took over Dante's stock in the 1930s and bound up these volumes in their distinctive orange, patterned cloth using Dante endpapers that also came with the deal.

To the best of my knowledge the original Dante issue of these volumes was only in soft covers. Anyway, this is a very attractive, smart and rare set of books. Kassak Lajos (illustrator).

Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
