Alice Perrin
Treherne, London · 1901
First Edition. Rare first edition of Alice Perrin's first, best and most famous collection of ghostly, spooky tales with Indian themes [Gupta 1592, Bleiler p.221]. In original russet cloth with lettering and decoration in green and white.
Neat, professional repairs to snags at head and tail of spine;slight marginal grubbiness passim. Overall a good or better copy of a book that is hardly ever encountered, probably from a print run of no more than 1000 copies. Alice Perrin's work was neglected for over 70 years after her death but she is now being reevaluated and seen as a key figure in female writing about India - and a mistress of the macabre.
Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
