First Edition. One of the scarcest trade editions in the Thomas Mann canon, and one of his most appealing and accessible works. The book was issued in two formats: hardbound in green cloth, all edges cut, and paperbound, uncut.
This is a copy in the latter format, which is considerably scarcer than the hardbound. Book is clean and sound and in the fragile dustwrapper which has minor chipping and neat internal repairs to short tears but no loss to lettering.
