H. Rider Haggard
Spencer Blackett, Griffith Farran & Co., London · 1892
First Edition Thus. Very scarce early edition of Haggard's first novel. An unusual mixed issue with title and ads at rear giving the publisher as Spencer Blackett whereas the spine is lettered Griffith, Farran & Co.
Twenty-ninth thousand stated on title page; undated but with ownership inscription dated 1892. Original brown cloth (an unusual imitation half-leather binding) lettered in silver and ruled in black. 16 illustrations by various artists. Original purple endpapers.
Surface rubbing to inner rear hinge where tape has been removed else a lovely clean copy both inside and out. One for a Haggard completist.
Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
