Darabokra Szaggattatol - The Writing on the Wall Part 5)
Miklos Banffy
Erdelyi Szepmives Ceh, Kolozsvar · 1940
First Edition. Lovely clean final part (volume 5 of 5) of Banffy's monumental historical novel, documenting the decay and collapse of the Hungarian nobility in Transylvania in the early part of the 20th century. Recently translated into English to great critical acclaim, and now belatedlyrecognized as one of the keyworks of Central European literature.
This is a copy of the very scarce true first edition, published in Transylvania after the Treaty of Trianon had divided up Greater Hungary, by the guild of Hungarian writers. In the firm's distinctive and stylish coarse tan cloth, lettered and illustrated in blue, red and black. Flat-back bindings, meaning that most surviving copies are now in shreds.
This copy however is in an excellent state of presevation, with just slight wear at the top of spine, otherwise almost spotless. Rare opportunity to acquire this highspot title in such choice condition.
Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
