Baroness Orczy: A Bibliography of First Editions

Jeremy [Baroness Orczy] Parrott
Kakapo Press, Szeged · 2012

First Edition. Brand new bibliography of Baroness Orczy's works in first edition. This is the first book to deal with the whole of Baroness Orczy's literary output.

She wrote 59 books over a 50-year career, including 13 Scarlet Pimpernel books, detective stories and much besides. Many of her first editions were undated, making positive identification difficult. This user-friendly bibliography clears up identification problems and gives print runs for many of the books, enabling the dealer or collector to judge relative scarcity.

In addition to a full description of all UK first editions there are notes on US, Colonial and continental editions and concerning reprints and film adaptations. There is an introduction to Orczy's life and work, a section on Orczy's contributions to collective works and a list of her magazine appearances. The book is a quality large format softback with French flaps, sturdily bound and printed on art paper.

It comprises 144pp of text + 16pp of full-colour plates illustrating book covers and dust-wrappers. This is an indispensable tool for all Orczy lovers, collectors, bookdealers and librarians. The author, an antiquarian bookseller and literary scholar, lives in Orczy's native Hungary and has been researching her work for over 10 years.

Published in a strictly limited edition of 500 numbered copies.

Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
