An Autobiography

Anthony Trollope
Blackwood, London · 1883

First Edition. First edition of Trollope's autobiography, posthumously published. A work which, paradoxically, served to undermine Trollope's reputation as in it he eschewed the romantic notion of poetic inspiration, blood, sweat and tears, giving a far more prosaic account at his methodical writing style.

It was only some 50 years later that Sadleir rescued him from the discarded pile of Victorian novelists and that he assumed his rightful place in the literary canon. Two volume first edition in the original russet cloth with gilt spine lettering and black lettering to covers. Spines faded as usual with this title.

Sepia coated endpapers, 24pp publisher's list at end of Vol. 2. Inner joints cracked but holding. A perfectly sound set of this important book.

Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
