A Gyuruk Ura [Lord of the Rings]
J.R.R. Tolkien
Gondolat, Budapest · 1981
First Edition. First edition in 3 volumes of the Hungarian translation of 'Lord of the Rings'. Each volume is bound in dark green cloth lettered in black and with a shield blind-stamped to the front cover. the dust-wrapper art by Vida Gyozo features six different full-colour illustrations - to the front and back panels of each volume.
The translation is the work of Rez Adam, Tandori Dezso and, principally, Goncz Arpad - who later became the President of Hungary. The books are VG indeed and the dws are bright with neat internal repairs and rubbing to the edges. This first edition has become very hard to find - and highly sought after - both in Hungary and abroad.
Later editions are in a different format and with different illustrations. An important and unusual addition to any Tolkien collection. Vida Gyozo (illustrator).
Written by Dr Jeremy Parrott, who has the book in his hands. Nothing here is generated from a catalogue record.
